Sagadahoc County Commissioners signed a side letter to the Deputy Sheriff’s Collective Bargaining Agreement on Dec. 10 that removes disparities in lateral-entry benefits. Sheriff Joel Merry said the side letter equalizes seniority and accrued vacation, prorated to Nov. 12, and that the annual cost is a few thousand dollars.
The board also approved an updated job description for the county Administrative Assistant position after Administrator Amber Jones described minor substantive changes and additional responsibilities. Commissioner Stephen August asked administration to provide "track changes" copies for future job-description edits; the motion to approve the updated job description passed 3-0.
Following that vote, the board authorized the hire of internal candidate Sailor Cartwright to the Administrative Assistant role. Jones said Cartwright will cover Probate Office responsibilities during the transition until a replacement is found; the motion to hire passed 2-0.
Several related personnel items — including authorizing $100/week stipends for temporary coverage of Probate Register and Probate Clerk duties — were tabled for further consideration.
