Kewanee council asks staff to update permit fees to better cover city costs

The Kewanee City Council on July 22 directed staff to prepare ordinance changes to update building permit fees after a presentation from the director of community development.
Keith Edwards, the city’s director of community development, told council members he had compared Kewanee’s current permit fees with those of other municipalities and recommended updates so the city at minimum covers its costs for permit projects. Council members agreed with the goal and asked staff to return with proposed changes and an ordinance for a subsequent meeting and vote.
No specific fee amounts or ordinance language were adopted at the July 22 meeting; the presentation was discussion only and staff will draft the proposed changes for formal consideration.
