Superintendent John Suttie told the RSU 23 board on Oct. 15 that the district had not canceled any school days due to COVID-19 and credited families, teachers and staff for daily self-assessments and following CDC and state Department of Education guidance. "Everyone has been pitching in following the CDC and DOE guidelines. I am proud of how everyone has handled this tough situation," Suttie said.
Suttie also announced that parent reservations for annual teacher conferences will be sent next week, with scheduled conference dates on Nov. 4 and Nov. 11. The superintendent acknowledged the departure of Mark Beaudoin, a facilities employee whose last day was Oct. 14, thanked him for improvements to vans and buildings and wished him well in a private-sector position.
Board members echoed appreciation for staff and the district’s COVID response. Christopher LaSalle said he viewed RSU 23's preparations as exemplary compared with other districts; Sally Beatty emphasized supporting students and finding positives amid pandemic restrictions; Michelle Violette singled out technology staff Pam Pothier and Donna Stearns for praise. Chair Dave Boudreau said evaluations work will be scheduled ahead of the November meeting.
The meeting included no public comments and adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
