The Reedfield Select Board on Dec. 8 accepted an updated Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that refreshes contact lists, clarifies department responsibilities, and formalizes Reedfield Radio's role in local emergency communications.
Lee, speaking in his capacity associated with emergency response, and town manager Eric walked the board through minor edits and updated contact information. The plan describes roles during incidents (incident command, logistics, public information), and identifies the select board’s role in approving emergency expenditures and ensuring consistent public messaging during major incidents.
Reedfield Radio role: The meeting highlighted Reedfield Radio (94.5 FM) as both an EAS (Emergency Alert System) affiliate and a source for locally specific emergency information. Staff played a sample audio summary describing how EAS headers, attention tones and local PSAs would be used; the board discussed routine testing and the station’s ability to rebroadcast state-level EAS alerts and provide locally produced information about shelter locations, road closures and community resources.
Training and next steps: Board members were encouraged to take FEMA ICS/EM online modules (ICS 800 was recommended) to ensure consistency in public messages during emergencies; staff will follow up on outstanding training requirements. The board voted unanimously to accept the EOP with the edits discussed.
What happens next: Eric will correct minor contact list inconsistencies, consolidate duplicate schedule tables, and return the revised plan for posting and distribution. The town will pursue options to schedule ICS training for board members and key staff.
