Teen petition asks Port Clinton to move Trick-or-Treat so students can attend playoff; mayor declines

A teenage resident and the Port Clinton High School head football coach asked the Council on Oct. 28 to consider moving Trick-or-Treat because the high school team earned a playoff game scheduled for the same evening.
Coach Eric Leuthold said he accepted the coaching job to build a program that brings the community together and described the playoff as an opportunity for students and the town. "What a better opportunity than to make the playoffs to build a product they are proud of," he said, urging council to consider a date change.
Ashton, who circulated a petition the night before, spoke directly to council and asked for the city to move Trick-or-Treat to allow students and families to attend the game. Councilmember Cathy King asked if Trick-or-Treat could be put on another date; Mayor Snider replied no and thanked Ashton for speaking up.
Council did not take formal action on the petition. The issue remains a community discussion point; the mayor indicated that the city will not reschedule the event for the upcoming holiday night.
