The Simsbury Public Library Board of Trustees on June 15 voted to accept an amended Friends gift total of $97,194 following an audit; the motion to accept the corrected figure was made by Lori, seconded by Trustee Mary, and passed with one abstention.
In the May finance report the finance director said the town expects roughly $100,000 in savings largely attributable to personnel gaps during staff promotions. Under applicable restrictions only a portion of the savings is available for discretionary use; the director stated about $10,000 was available and staff were working to allocate it. The facilities maintenance line was reported about $53,000 over budget, offset in part by electricity savings.
Other business: Trustees received updates from the director on a recent software migration (staff resolved early glitches within 24 hours), outreach events (Touch-a-Truck, Green Fair, and planned Juneteenth/June 20 activities), and a planned September website launch. The board reviewed scheduling for primary voting (now at town hall, not the library program room) and heard a Friends report on book collection days for a Labor Day weekend sale.
Action and next steps: The board approved minutes from May 18 (motion by Maryann; seconded by Polly) by voice vote, accepted the Friends’ amended gift with one abstention, and moved into executive session to discuss the library director’s performance review (motion by Susan; seconded by Marian). Trustees also asked for a copy of any letter the chair sends regarding the EV charger discussion to be circulated to the board.
Ending: Several agenda items (strategic planning committee timing and a reconsideration of a partnership signage policy with the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation) were left for future meetings. The meeting adjourned into executive session at about 7:15 p.m.
