North Canton schedules DART downtown assessment for May 5; staff previews fire station timeline

City administration told the council it has scheduled a Downtown Assessment Resource Team (DART) envisioning session for Tuesday, May 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Dogwood Shelter. The session, led by Heritage Ohio and the Main Street program, will involve stakeholder interviews and a public envisioning meeting to identify downtown strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.
Director of Administration encouraged residents and property owners to attend and said the exercise is part of the city’s economic-development work and master-planning efforts for downtown. "We want a vibrant downtown," the director said, urging stakeholders to participate.
On the fire station, staff said the construction manager-at-risk and the architect are finalizing plans, and a groundbreaking is likely the first week of June. Officials said they expect a roughly 14-month build and are targeting an opening in the summer of 2027. Staff also said a guaranteed-maximum-price package is expected to be presented to council committees in advance of formal council approval.
