Fred and Debbie Cardella attended the Aug. 20 Fox River Grove board meeting to present a $19,500 façade grant application for exterior improvements to their new business, The 100 Lounge at 100 Northwest Highway.
Assistant Administrator Bechler introduced the Cardellas and summarized the submitted cost list. Trustees debated whether the parking-lot sealing and striping—listed at $4,800—qualifies as a façade expense under the village program. Trustee Jennifer Curtiss said she supports the 50/50 façade grant program and "does not feel seal and striping the parking lot falls into the 'façade' aspect of the grant program." Trustee Devin Hester agreed that removing the parking-lot item is appropriate and said he would support a 50/50 split on the remaining eligible costs. Trustee Andrew Migdal said he would be willing to retain the parking-lot line item for the $2,000 difference.
The board did not authorize funds at the meeting but reached consensus to place the Cardellas’ application on an upcoming Village Board agenda for formal consideration of a $7,350 reimbursement, representing 50% of $14,700 (the applicant's requested total minus the $4,800 parking-lot item that several trustees viewed as out-of-scope). The item will return for a formal vote at a future meeting.
