The Village of Denton Board of Trustees discussed a two‑phase solar project for the municipal water system at its July 8 meeting.
Jim Pearson described a plan that would install racking first and complete wiring in a second phase. "The cost of racking is $8,000, for a total of $30,000-35,000. Storage would add another $10,000," Pearson said, and noted that the panels have "a 25-year warranty." Trustees discussed possible locations for panels and wiring and asked questions about phasing and costs.
Board members expressed interest in pursuing studies before committing money. The board reached a consensus in favor of having UNL students study Denton "for its urban and business interest in setting an example for other communities," the meeting record shows. The discussion identified the need to refine cost estimates, site plans and funding sources before any formal appropriation.
Next steps recorded in the meeting: staff are to develop refined cost and site information for inclusion in the 2024–25 budget deliberations and consider study support from UNL. No motion to appropriate funds was made at the July 8 meeting.
