Trustees agree to seek Senator Fischer funds for lagoon repair, pursue USDA support

Village staff told trustees on Feb. 3 that moving Senator Fischer grant funds to wastewater could strengthen a USDA package for lagoon repair and expansion; trustees agreed to request the reallocation and to conduct a public income survey with NE Rural Water Association to support the USDA application.
Blackledge told the board that reallocating Senator Deb Fischer grant funds from a drinking-water project to a wastewater/lagoon repair and expansion would increase the strength of a USDA funding package for the village.
Trustees noted the lagoon needs significant repair and that some piping is about 50 years old. Blackledge said the current water tower can meet proposed demand but that lagoon expansion will be required as development proceeds. The board agreed by consensus to ask Senator Fischer's office to shift funds to the wastewater project and to work with the Nebraska Rural Water Association to conduct a public income survey, which could improve eligibility or scoring for USDA funding.
No formal motion was recorded for the reallocation at the Feb. 3 meeting; trustees recorded a consensus to pursue the funding change and to conduct the survey. Blackledge will reach out to the Nebraska Rural Water Association to organize the income survey and report back to the board.
