Lebanon introduces two capital ordinances totaling $1.196 million for roads, equipment and upgrades

Lebanon Township's Committee on Aug. 21 introduced two capital ordinances that together appropriate $1,196,000 from the township's capital improvement funds for road work, equipment purchases and building upgrades.

Ordinance No. 09-2024, introduced by Tom McKee, would appropriate $640,000 from the 2023 Capital Improvement Fund for items including a road resurfacing program, a chip-seal program, a DPW dump truck and fire department building upgrades. The Committee voted unanimously to introduce the ordinance and set a public hearing for Sept. 4, 2024.

Ordinance No. 10-2024, introduced by Abe Abuchowski, would appropriate $556,000 from the 2024 Capital Improvement Fund for road programs and a suite of equipment purchases, including a DPW maintainer and air compressor, a calcium tank, a police SUV, meeting-room recording equipment and fire prevention software. That measure was also introduced unanimously and scheduled for a Sept. 4 public hearing.

Both ordinances state the appropriations are lawful capital improvements with a period of usefulness of at least five years and that the capital budget will be amended as required. Final adoption is subject to the public hearings and any required approvals from the Division of Local Government Services.

Next steps: public hearings for both ordinances on Sept. 4, Planning/finance staff to confirm capital budget amendments and any paperwork required by the Local Finance Board.
