Lower Elkhorn NRD awards $4,950 to Lyons for community tree project

The grant funds supported planting 33 trees in Lyons’ parks and boulevards, the minutes state. The city accepted the funds during the regular meeting; the presentation was listed on the agenda and recorded in the minutes with no public objection.
Library and utilities staff noted related capital and grant-seeking activity elsewhere on the agenda: Library Director Mike Heavrin said he is searching for grants to replace streetlights in the business district and flagged the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant as a potential source expected to open in early 2025. Utility Supervisor Terry Ueding reported the lead-pipe survey is due at the end of September and that door-to-door responses will be collected.
Next steps: The city will incorporate the Lower Elkhorn NRD funds into project accounting and proceed with the planting work identified as phase 2 of the City of Trees program.
