Denton trustees approve 2024–25 budget, set $101,727.20 property tax request

The Village of Denton Board of Trustees on Sept. 19 approved the fiscal 2024–25 budget and set a property tax request of $101,727.20 with a levy of .482685 at a meeting at the Denton Community Center.

The board unanimously adopted motions to exceed the restricted funds limit by 1% and to raise the tax request by 2.5 percent during a brief sequence of public hearings and motions. Trustees John Juricek and Amanda Fangmeier initiated the motions; Trustee Trent Wheatley seconded the resolution to adopt levy authority. The board then passed Resolution 24-9-1 (Levy Authority) and voted to approve the budget for the 2024–25 fiscal year with all trustees voting in favor.

During a presentation on village finances, Carmen Stanely of HBE told trustees that tax dollars cannot be used to pay utility funds and noted that keno funds transferred to water and sewer are currently helping those operations. The board disclosed a tax-request breakdown presented during the hearing of $68,727.20 for non-bond purposes and $33,000 required for a water bond.

Other business included a clerk report on a Senator Fischer grant fund, a vote to move the October regular meeting to Oct. 3, 2024, and a decision to table discussion of employee compensation until the October meeting. The clerk later certified the minutes as a true and correct copy of the proceedings.

Formal actions recorded in the meeting minutes include the adoption of Resolution 24-9-1 (Levy Authority), approval of the 2024–25 budget, and the formal property tax request set at $101,727.20. The board did not receive public comment during the hearings.
