Lyons council hears pool boiler failure update; Jensen's quotes $36,860 for replacement

Utility Supervisor Ueding updated the Lyons City Council on June 24 about ongoing problems with the municipal pool’s boiler and chemical systems. Ueding told council members he believes the gas regulators were undersized and that regulators replacement and boiler cleaning did not restore correct combustion: when staff fired the boiler they observed yellow and orange flames and shut it down.
Jensen’s provided a written quote for a new boiler including delivery and installation for $36,860, which Ueding said was more than originally expected and carries a lead time that would deliver after the pool season ends. Ueding said he would meet with Matthew Smith from Olsson to review the issues and warranties before the council makes a purchasing decision.
Park and Recreation Commissioner Kyler Phillips relayed that Pool Manager Whitaker requested a half‑hour break from 5:00–5:30 p.m. The council elected to keep the pool’s hours unchanged for this season and said it would revisit staffing and hours next year.
No formal motion to purchase equipment was recorded in the minutes; the entry documents operational troubleshooting, the vendor quote, and a follow‑up meeting with Olsson’s to clarify options and warranties.
