RSU 23 board schedules virtual public hearing on school budget, moves June meeting to June 29

At a special meeting on June 10, 2020, Chair Dave Boudreau called the RSU 23 board to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board voted unanimously to hold a virtual public hearing on the school budget referendum on June 29 at 5:00 p.m.
The action came after a motion by board member Sally Beatty to call a public hearing, approve the referendum warrants and approve the notice of a remote public hearing; Christopher LaSalle seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous (S. Beatty, C. LaSalle, P. Flaherty and D. Boudreau). Peter Flaherty later moved to move the June school board meeting from June 18 to June 29 at 5:00 p.m.; Beatty seconded and the board again approved the change unanimously.
Chair Dave Boudreau said the emergency meeting was prompted by Governor Mills' executive order affecting school budget referendums and public hearings and by limitations on in-person gatherings. He explained that, because the board could not hold an in-person budget validation meeting under current restrictions, the virtual public hearing on June 29 will allow the public to comment on the referendum articles and allow warrants to be signed and submitted to the town for countersignature.
The board adjourned at 6:14 p.m. after a motion by Christopher LaSalle, seconded by Sally Beatty. Minutes for the meeting were prepared by transcriber Helene Stevens and respectfully submitted by Superintendent John Suttie.
