City Manager Gonzalez introduced the family's request and Council Member Libertad “Liberty” Lopez moved to direct staff to proceed with the naming and to plan a formal dedication ceremony. Council Member Jesus “Jesse” Mendoza seconded the motion, which passed 5–0.
Family members and community supporters spoke in favor of the naming during public comment. Melissa Gil Garcia, Karen Phil Joyner, Daniel Garcia and a speaker identified as Eugene each commented on the proposal, urging the council to proceed. The minutes record the council’s action as unanimous and note that a naming ceremony will be planned.
The item follows routine council procedures for facility naming; the council did not record any amendments to the motion. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
