Storm cleanup, parks irrigation and clubhouse updates highlighted in Crawford operations report

City staff reported significant storm cleanup needs after heavy rainfall last week. Street Supervisor Dan Brien said crews found about 5 feet of stormwater at the Main Street underpass, temporarily closed the road overnight, and worked the following days to clear debris. The city’s street sweeper removed more than 10 tons of debris until the main broom failed; replacement brushes have been received and crews expect to complete cleanup this week.

Brien said the city used its 40-ton base pile of material to repair potholes and washouts and has ordered additional material to continue alley and dirt-road repairs. He said staff plan to request approval for storm-drain repairs on Elm and Annin at a subsequent meeting.

Parks staff and Park Board Chair Scott DeBock reported maintenance needs across park properties: a primary mower suffered a broken frame and may need replacement, irrigation at the baseball fields is only partially functional (three valves located, six remaining to find), and volunteers removed trees at Peabody Hale Park and offered to install irrigation and reseed the area. DeBock thanked volunteers for their work.

At the Legend Buttes Golf Clubhouse, managers reported weekend play has increased and encouraged members and guests to make weekend tee times; the men’s league raised $630 for a scholarship board, and the clubhouse donated rounds to a local fundraiser. Library staff said summer-reading programs are concluding and fall programming is being planned. Councilman Tovmassian also reported SWANN board activity related to transfer-station operations and equipment funding.
