Crawford council approves JEO design work for water overflow using remaining ARPA funds

The City of Crawford approved engineering work to relocate its existing water-supply overflow, agreeing to fund design and permitting from remaining COVID American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
The motion to discuss the JEO scope of services was made by Council Member Robert Tovmassian and seconded by Council Member Christopher Dean; the council voted in favor (Tovmassian, Dean, Grant). The scope covers design and permitting for relocating the infiltration gallery that handles overflow from the town’s water supply.
Water and wastewater staff told the council the primary pump sent for service was deemed non-repairable and that staff are evaluating either replacing the pump housing or ordering a new pump-and-motor assembly. The council also approved a separate vendor quote: a motion to accept the Iowa Pump Works quote for wastewater-plant equipment in the amount of $8,570 plus shipping was made by Dean, seconded by Grant, and carried unanimously.
City staff said new actuators for flush gates have arrived and are being installed; a recently replaced flow-control valve at the lift station has reduced nuisance alarms. Dennis, a water-plant operator, told the council he has a quote for a much-needed lift pump and expects to order the unit pending council approval.
The council did not set construction dates at the meeting; staff said the next steps are finalizing engineering documents with JEO, completing procurement for needed pump equipment, and scheduling permitting and installation once parts arrive.
