Roxbury selectmen set June 1 special town meeting; approve knotweed funding and add two grant items to warrant

The Town of Roxbury Board of Selectmen voted unanimously on May 20 to sign a warrant for a Special Town Meeting set for June 1 and to include several articles on that warrant, including funding for Japanese knotweed removal and two grant-related items.
Selectman Ray Hodsdon moved that the board place a warrant article authorizing Japanese knotweed removal to be paid from the general fund and to allow spending of up to $25,000 to account for potential cost increases; Selectman Matthew Patneaude seconded the motion and the board approved it 3-0. The motion increases the town’s contingency above the previously quoted $20,000 figure to provide flexibility for vendor estimates.
On grant matters, the board recorded that a town vote is required to apply for and accept Med Care grant funds and to execute any related documents such as an MOU or contract. The selectmen approved sending the draft MOU to the town lawyer for review and noted that a Medcare representative will attend the meeting to answer questions and distribute informational flyers. Separately, the board agreed the Community Resilience grant should be included on the warrant and added that item to the Special Town Meeting agenda.
Chair Timothy Derouche then moved to sign the Special Town Meeting warrant for June 1 with six articles; Selectman Matthew Patneaude seconded and the motion passed 3-0. The board adjourned at 4:23 p.m.
The Special Town Meeting will consider the set of six articles on June 1; any appropriation or acceptance of grant funds will require a town vote at that meeting.
