Staff said the GE edits align non‑union language with recently ratified contracts and incorporate Maine paid family medical leave language.
The committee also approved the pre‑K handbook updates for a first reading; staff said the changes are annual housekeeping items (updated staff and board contact information, a mission statement and a four‑day pre‑K calendar) and contain no substantive policy changes.
On facilities policy, committee members reviewed a new temperature standard drafted in response to state legislative requirements. The draft identifies a comfort range for teaching and learning between 68°F and 82°F and lists steps for staff when spaces fall outside that range (for example, relocating class activities to cooler or warmer areas or adjusting schedules). Staff noted that MSAD11’s geographically dispersed buildings have varying systems and that the policy provides operational guidance rather than prescriptive building upgrades.
All three items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote to proceed to the full board for first reading.
Next steps: the full MSAD11 board will consider the GE manual updates, the pre‑K handbook and the EBBD temperature policy at upcoming first‑reading sessions; staff indicated they will monitor implementation and return with adjustments if needed.
