Council on Aging outlines May–June events, asks for volunteers for June 18 block party

Council staff reviewed a slate of May and June activities including a Kentucky Derby party, Mother’s Day Tea, a magic show and an open house, and requested volunteers for the June 18 Recreation Commission Summer Block Party and the June 24 COA Open House.
Aniela Anderson, director of the Middleton Council on Aging, and Program & Volunteer Coordinator Olivia Scouten reviewed a schedule of May and June activities and asked for volunteer help for two upcoming town events.
Anderson said volunteers are needed to assist with the Recreation Commission Summer Block Party on June 18. Scouten outlined specific programs: a Kentucky Derby party on May 6, a Mother’s Day Tea on May 11, a monthly movie screening of "Singing in the Rain" on May 13, Town Election voting in the multipurpose room on May 19 (which will affect regular classes), Peter Jackson's magic show on May 20 and an acoustic performance at the Veterans Lunch on May 26. The COA Open House is scheduled for June 24 directly after the board meeting and will include tables from the Health Department, Town Administration, Veterans' Services, the Food Pantry and other local partners.
Scouten also proposed a themed monthly movie night with baked goods prepared in the COA kitchen, said she is meeting with a potential Zumba instructor for Wednesday mornings starting in July, and reported that Debbie Coco will gauge interest in tap dance classes. New board member Norma Andreucci requested adding 4-pound weights to the COA's equipment collection.
Staff asked community members and volunteers to sign up to support the June events; no formal vote was required. The council's next meeting is May 27, 2026.
