The Southwest Public Schools Board of Education on March 10 approved a series of personnel and facilities items, including a teacher contract, bus driver pay rates, and two vendor contracts.
Moved by John O’Dea and seconded by Duane Teter, the board approved a teacher contract for Sergio Alarcon to serve as a math instructor at the junior‑senior high school. The motion carried with all six board members voting in favor.
The board set bus driver compensation for the 2025–2026 school year at $65.00 per route and kept the activity‑trip hourly wage at $18.00 per hour after a motion by Duane Teter, seconded by John O’Dea. The motion carried unanimously.
Also approved were two facilities contracts. On a motion by O’Dea and second by Teter, the board accepted Unitech’s bid to refinish the gym floors in summer 2025 for $4,740.00. On a motion by O’Dea and second by Derek Meyers, the board approved a $4,956.00 quote from K‑C Motor and Electric to install lighting controls at the Southwest Junior‑Senior High School. Both motions passed with all voting members in the affirmative.
Board procedural items completed during the meeting included excusing absent member John O’Dea earlier in the session, approving the meeting agenda, approving the minutes of the Feb. 10 meeting (with O’Dea recorded as abstaining on that vote), approving presented claims, and adjourning the meeting. All motions and votes were recorded in the official meeting minutes.
The board will reconvene for its next regular meeting Monday, April 14, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Southwest Junior‑Senior High School in Bartley.
