Southwest Public Schools board adopts 2024-25 budget, property tax request and multiple policy updates

The Southwest Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 9 to adopt the district's 2024-25 budget and to approve the district's property tax request for the 2024-25 school fiscal year. The meeting was called to order by President Jason Neseth at 7:49 p.m. at Southwest Jr./Sr. High School in Bartley.
The board approved a budget that covers the General, Depreciation, Employee Benefit, Contingency, Activities, Special Building, School Nutrition, Qualified Capital Purpose Undertaking, Cooperative, and Student Fee funds. President Jason Neseth moved the budget for approval and Jason Kloepping seconded; the motion carried with ayes recorded as John O'Dea, Jason Kloepping, Brooke Brooks, Jason Neseth, Duane Teter and Jennifer McConville.
The board also approved the district's property tax request for the 2024-25 fiscal year after a motion by John O'Dea and a second; the transcript records the vote as unanimous. Earlier in the meeting the board approved the Aug. 12, 2024 meeting minutes and the presented claims by recorded motions and unanimous votes.
In other governance business, the board approved the updated student handbook for the 2024-25 school year (motion by John O'Dea, seconded by Duane Teter) and approved a revision to Policy 5062 (motion by Jennifer McConville, seconded by Brooke Brooks). The board also approved a new school mission statement on a motion by John O'Dea with a second from Jason Kloepping; that motion carried as recorded.
All formal motions recorded in the meeting minutes passed with the ayes listed in the transcript; no nays were recorded.
