The Town Council Personnel and Appointments Committee recommended on June 16 that the full Town Council appoint Fenty Lee as an alternate member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026. The committee took the recommendation by unanimous voice vote.
Fenty Lee, appearing online, told the committee she has been director of Safe Futures Residential Programs for seven years and has lived in Groton for about 21 years. "This is going to be my first time and just learning," she said, asking committee members to "lead me to do what I need to do." Chair Dave Good and other members praised her willingness to serve and noted her background as a former realtor could bring useful perspective to zoning matters.
Councilor Kevin Fitzgerald moved the recommendation and Machino seconded it. Chair Good explained that the committee’s action is a recommendation; the Town Council will vote on confirmation, after which the town clerk will arrange required trainings including FOIA and Robert's Rules and schedule a swearing-in if the council confirms the appointment.
The committee recorded three "aye" votes, no opposed and no abstentions. The committee did not identify any outstanding concerns or conditions tied to the recommendation.
