Council asks ODOT to review parking near State Route 36 and North High Street after widening

At its Sept. 3 meeting, the Covington Village Council discussed concerns that drivers have started parking along the side of North High Street after a widening project, creating traffic congestion and safety hazards near the State Route 36 and High Street intersection. Council members and staff identified the change in roadside behavior as a new problem tied to the recent road work.
Police Chief Tim Cline said he will contact the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to ask whether signs should be moved or lane lines extended to address the hazard. Village Administrator Tyler Rench told the council that, if ODOT requires local action or if the department’s guidance indicates changes to on-street parking are appropriate, he will draft an ordinance for council consideration.
No ordinance was introduced during the Sept. 3 meeting; the council directed staff to seek ODOT clarification as the next step. Council members did not vote on any formal change to parking rules at this meeting.
