Marquette County board backs WCA resolution asking state to cover last quarter of 2026 FoodShare costs

The Marquette County Department of Human Services Board voted 7-1 Sept. 8 to approve a Wisconsin Counties Association (WCA) resolution asking the state to pick up the final quarter of 2026 FoodShare costs. Barbara Sheldon moved to approve the resolution, Cathy Christensen seconded, and Peggy (Peggy) Krause recorded the lone no vote.
The resolution, presented by Mandy Stanley, asks state policymakers to assume the county share of FoodShare for the final quarter of 2026. Board members discussed the resolution as part of routine business and voted to forward it to the county's Executive & Finance (E&F) Committee for further consideration.
Board materials did not include a line-item dollar figure for the county's liability under the proposal. Annett Eckes reported separately that FoodShare issuance in the county increased by about $43,000 year-over-year, but she did not tie that figure to the WCA resolution.
The board's approval was procedural: the motion passed and the resolution will travel to E&F for any fiscal review or follow-up action. The board's minutes do not record a detailed roll-call of how each member voted beyond noting the 7-1 tally and that Krause voted no.
