Marquette County tightens smoking, vaping rules for county property
Summary
The county amended Chapter 80 of the county code to define smoking and vaping and to permit tobacco or nicotine use only more than 50 feet from county buildings; the ordinance change was adopted by the board Sept. 16.
The Marquette County Board on Sept. 16 amended its county code to update language on smoking, vaping and use of tobacco or nicotine products.
Introduced by Supervisors David Benson and Mary P. Walters, Resolution No. 52-2025 revised Sections 80.03(E) and 80.08(B) of Chapter 80 — Public Property — to define smoking and vaping (including e-cigarettes and similar devices) and to permit use only more than 50 feet from any building; smoking remains prohibited inside bathrooms, buildings, or shelters.
The amendment was adopted by roll call (Ayes 16; Noes 0; Absent 1). County administrators presented the updated Smoking, Vaping, and Tobacco Use Policy and the ordinance change implements the policy across county property.
The county will publish the ordinance amendment and enforce the revised setbacks on county-owned facilities once the change is recorded.
