Marquette County board approves rezoning in Town of Newton

The Marquette County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 16 adopted Resolution No. 50-2025 to rezone a 1.29-acre parcel in the Town of Newton from General Agriculture (AG-2) to Residential (R-1).
The change, introduced by Supervisors David Benson and David Krentz and approved as part of the meeting’s consent agenda, applies to Lot 1 of Certified Survey Map No. 1261 (part of the southwest one-quarter of the northeast one-quarter, Section 28, T17N R09E). Board materials state the Planning and Zoning Committee held a public hearing and recommended the amendment.
County findings supporting the rezoning said the parcel is better suited for residential use, the change would not substantially impair adjacent land uses, and the rezoning is consistent with town and county comprehensive plans including the single-family residential–rural component.
The ordinance amends Chapter 70 of the Marquette County Code of Ordinances and updates the county zoning map accordingly. The item was approved under the consent agenda (motion by Kathy Jo Locke; second by Mike Raddatz) and was carried by the board at the Sept. 16 session.
The county clerk’s office maintains the certified survey map and ordinance update for public inspection.
