The applicant, Paul, told the committee he founded the business in 2021 and has been operating from a studio on the property while reworking building plans several times because of an adjacent 10-foot right-of-way. "I incorporated when I founded the business in 2021," Paul said, explaining that repeated redesigns were needed after assessor surveys and right-of-way complications delayed the project.
Members said the project would provide a permanent downtown presence that could help recruit employees and attract customers. One member described the proposal as aligned with the committee’s goal of revitalizing downtown, saying the committee should support applicants who will invest in new construction there.
There was discussion about program limits and how grant amounts are calculated; one member noted the current program guideline for a typical grant was substantially lower. Several members also clarified that the committee’s recommendation would go to the select board for final action and that exceptions above standard guidelines are handled through that body.
A motion to recommend the full $25,000 passed on a voice vote with one member recorded as abstaining. Committee members directed staff to relay the committee’s reasons and to present the application to the select board at its next meeting.
