Sue Anne Martin was elected president of the Tecumseh Local Board of Education on Jan. 7, 2025, and Jon Stafford was elected vice president during the board’s organizational meeting held at Tecumseh High School’s Arrow Conference Room in New Carlisle.
The board convened immediately after a public budget hearing presented by Treasurer Denise Robinson. At the organizational meeting President Pro-tem Sue Anne Martin called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance and the board conducted roll call; Members Clark, Diller, Martin, Mills and Stafford were present.
Matt Mills nominated Martin for president and Brenda Clark seconded the nomination. The board approved the election on a 5-0 roll-call vote. Treasurer Denise Robinson then administered the Oath of Office to newly elected President Martin. Martin nominated Jon Stafford for vice president; Mills seconded. The board approved that nomination on a 5-0 roll-call vote and Robinson administered the vice-presidential oath to Stafford.
The board also approved the schedule for regular 2025 meetings and agreed to two special joint meeting dates. A motion by Jon Stafford, seconded by Roger Diller, set the regular meeting dates and work sessions for the year, with meetings generally scheduled at 6:00 p.m. in the Arrow Conference Room at Tecumseh High School. A subsequent motion by Brenda Clark, seconded by Diller, set special joint meeting dates for March 31, 2025 (Smith Park) and Sept. 29, 2025 (Tecumseh High School Arrow Conference Room). Both motions carried unanimously.
Board members approved a slate of liaison and committee assignments for 2025, including appointing Sue Anne Martin as OSBA Legislative Liaison and Matt Mills as OSBA Legislative Alternate; the full list of assignments was approved on a unanimous vote.
On a motion by Roger Diller, seconded by Matt Mills, the board approved a standing authorization allowing the Superintendent and Treasurer, during periods when the board is not in session, to make offers of employment and acknowledge acceptances, to accept resignations submitted during those periods, and to impose discipline on employees under their direction, each action subject to subsequent ratification by the board. The motion states that upon board ratification, the effective date of such employment, resignation or discipline is the date and time of the Superintendent’s or Treasurer’s action; the authorization was adopted to allow personnel matters to move forward between meetings and will remain in effect until withdrawn by the board.
The meeting ended with a motion to adjourn by Jon Stafford, seconded by Matt Mills; the motion carried 5-0 and the board adjourned at 5:52 p.m. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Arrow Conference Room at Tecumseh High School.
