Supporters emphasized the difficulty of recruiting special education teachers and recommended hiring a qualified student‑teacher who had worked with district staff. Board members discussed compliance with IEPs and the need for paraprofessional support for some students.
The board moved and approved the contract by roll call vote. Administrators said the hire will help the district meet service minutes, provide continuity for early childhood services and reduce the need for emergency coverage by existing staff.
