Tecumseh board approves staff resignations and hires, extracurricular staffing and accepts donations; suspends Released-Time policy for further review

The Tecumseh Local Board of Education approved a consent calendar covering personnel actions, substitute appointments, and supplemental extracurricular assignments for the 2024–25 school year at its Nov. 19 meeting.

Personnel items recorded in the minutes included certified and classified resignations (for example, Jerome Crisostomo, Intervention Specialist at Tecumseh Middle School, resignation effective Dec. 20, 2024; and Janet Knotts, EMIS Coordinator, retirement effective Oct. 30, 2024) and the internal hiring of Dawn McConnaughey as a Title I aide effective Dec. 3, 2024. The minutes include a long list of approved substitutes for the 2024–25 school year and supplemental roles for athletics and music, such as assistant varsity wrestling positions, middle-school basketball coaches, and musical production staff. The consent calendar passed by roll call 5–0.

The board also accepted multiple donations to the district; among those listed in the minutes were a $4,000 donation to Park Layne for bus surveillance cameras from Park Layne Sunoco and several modest contributions to school programs and activities.

On policy, the board voted to suspend Policy 5223 (Released Time for Religious Instruction) at the December board meeting and to place the policy on the January agenda for further review. The motion to suspend was made by Board President Sue Anne Martin and seconded by Matt Mills; roll call was unanimous.

The meeting later recessed to executive session and adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
