The Tecumseh Local Board of Education approved a broad consent calendar on Sept. 17 covering personnel changes, contracts, resolutions and student activities.
Personnel: The board recorded several classified resignations (paraprofessionals and child‑nutrition staff) and approved hires for the 2024–25 school year, including Tom Hughes as a child‑nutrition worker and Pat Martin as groundskeeper/courier (Pat Martin’s employment was approved with Board President Sue Anne Martin abstaining from that specific vote). The board also authorized a long substitute list for the year and approved supplemental assignments such as pep band and academic team advisors.
Contracts and resolutions: Trustees adopted resolutions designating Oct. 14–18 as National School Lunch Week and Oct. 21–25 as National School Bus Safety Week. The board approved a one‑year snow‑removal contract with Stevenson Utilities Construction, LLC at $6,615.00 per clearing for all school building locations (the prior year rate listed as $5,115.00). The board accepted FY25 service contracts with the Montgomery County ESC and approved a one‑year lease of the former Westlake Elementary site to the New Carlisle Community Garden.
Finance and donations: August financial reports and permanent appropriations were approved, and a series of donations were accepted (for example, Anonymous donation to FCA $1,163; VFW Post 9966 $1,000). The board authorized fund advances to cover negative grant fund balances and approved a student activity transfer of $8,474.65 from the Class of 2024 to Class of 2025 funds and the creation of a new SADD student activity account.
Records and services: The board approved a one‑time contract with Strategic Solutions for scanning payroll and personnel files for up to $15,000.
Student travel: The board approved Tecumseh FFA attendance at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 23–25, 2024, and approved the yearly eighth‑grade Washington, D.C., trip tentatively scheduled for Nov. 19–22, 2025 with an estimated cost of $770 per student. One consent item (item W) was permanently tabled and removed from the consent calendar.
Votes: Key procedural votes included approval of prior minutes (motion passed 5‑0) and unanimous roll calls on major contracts and resolutions unless noted otherwise. Several personnel motions were recorded with individual roll‑call tallies in the minutes.
What’s next: Many of the approved contracts and personnel changes are effective immediately or on the listed effective dates; the district will return to the board for routine budget reports and to act on any requested policy changes (for example, possible amendments to policy 5223 discussed separately).
