Council directs appraisal, continues talks with developer interested in former water operations site

During the mayor’s report the Ward City Council discussed interest from a prospective investor in the former water operations facility (the "pink building") and adjacent parking area. The mayor said the property was appraised at about $200,000 in the prior year and that the prospective buyer described plans for retail uses, a small lumber supply and a coffee/cafe conversion on a nearby corner, plus a food-truck parking area.
Councilors asked about existing uses (police department vehicle stored there) and whether the property is actively used; the mayor said the facility is not in active operations and the city would have to relocate any vehicles if the property is sold. Council directed staff to obtain a new appraisal, invite the prospective investor to present to council, and continue discussions on purchase versus lease options. The council approved a motion to continue discussions and pursue an updated appraisal, saying any final sale or lease would require planning commission review and council approval.
The matter remains at the discussion and appraisal stage; council did not adopt a final disposition at the March 17 meeting.
