Kennedale ISD trustees hear bond construction progress, roof targets and site improvements

Kennedale Independent School District staff told trustees the district's bond construction program is progressing, with projects at the junior high, Patterson and the high school moving forward and additional roofing work planned for 2026.
Mr. Gadwis, presenting the bond construction update, said crews completed roofing upgrades in 2024 and have carried out HVAC, warehouse and high-school work; he noted ongoing work in the media center and nurses' station and said sprinkler heads were replaced districtwide under a recall warranty. He described the junior high addition as nearly complete and outlined interior demo, exterior flatwork and a new accessible ramp to the fieldhouse.
At Patterson, trustees were shown plans for a canopy and library renovations; the district is refinishing the old library and replacing kitchen flooring. Trustees also heard about new ornamental fencing at the high school and improvements to paving and site circulation.
On roofing, staff identified three 2026 priorities: the main high school north roof, the junior high fieldhouse metal roof (to be recoated and refastened), and a full press-box replacement at the stadium. Staff said these projects were not part of the original roofing package but that available bond funds could accommodate them; a presentation slide referenced a remaining balance of "6.9" without specifying units.
Board members asked about paving sequence to avoid equipment damage and about timing so crews can complete work without additional rework. Trustees praised progress and the contractor's communication and job-site cleanliness.
Staff said they would return with contract documents and formal award recommendations for roofing work during the action portion of the meeting.
