Ward council authorizes TAP application to fund Moon Road design work

The Ward City Council on Dec. 16 unanimously approved Resolution 202558 authorizing the mayor and/or city clerk to pursue federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) funds. Staff said they would prepare an application for design and engineering funds to widen curb, gutter and sidewalks on Moon Road from Wilson Loop to the city limits and that, once designs are shovel-ready, the city would seek CPRG funds for construction.
The mayor said MetroPlanner Day reviewed Moon Road and surrounding housing growth and that staff had discussed coordinating an ARDOT study of a potential traffic signal at the intersection of routes 38 and 319. Council members indicated county-level cooperation for future work was likely and that the planned work was preparatory to larger construction funding requests.
Why it matters: Moon Road will carry significant new housing development. Securing design engineering funds is a prerequisite to applying for construction funds later and to having projects "shovel-ready" when construction grants are available.
What happens next: Staff will prepare and submit the TAP application (deadline Jan. 8) and continue coordination with MetroPlanner Day and county officials; design work, if funded, will inform subsequent construction funding requests.
