On Sept. 3 the St. Paul City Council approved several personnel and appointment items.
Council voted 3-0 to hire part-time Police Officer Jonathan Lawrence, pending a background check, at an initial hourly rate of $21. Chief of Police Dan Howard told the council Lawrence is formerly employed with the Nebraska State Patrol and is fully certified. The council noted that former part-time officer Grady Robinson is no longer with the department; Chief Howard also reported on training, vehicle disposal plans (a 2016 Chevy Impala to be auctioned) and a 2017 Ford Taurus obtained from federal surplus.
Council member Sack moved and Council member Peters seconded approval of Dave Rosenquist as manager of American Legion Post #119; the motion passed 3-0. Council President Schmid appointed Glen Killion to the City Zoning Board of Adjustment as the one-mile extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction representative; the council approved the appointment 3-0.
The council also authorized City Clerk Jo Beck, Deputy Clerk Berthelsen and Council President Schmid to attend the League of Nebraska Municipalities annual conference on Oct. 2-4 in Lincoln.
What happens next: The police hire is conditioned on a successful background check; staff will complete registration and scheduling for the conference and place follow-up personnel items on future agendas as needed.
