The Marquette County Highway Committee on Aug. 19 approved multiple equipment purchases to support operations and replace aging units.
Brian Trebiatowski reported that the surplus auction raised just under $10,000 to offset the equipment fund. He asked the committee to approve purchasing four equipment packages to outfit quad-axle chassis at $198,745 apiece; the committee voted to approve that purchase (motion by John Bennett; seconded by Kathy Jo Locke). Trebiatowski said the expense will affect the 2027 budget but needs to be ordered now because of lead times and build schedules.
He also requested authorization to pursue a used 2015 Peterbilt with a live bottom, anticipated to cost between $75,000 and $95,000; the committee approved authorizing up to $100,000 for the purchase (motion by John Bennett; seconded by Lance Achterberg). If obtained, the truck would replace an early-2000 Sterling with multiple oil leaks and severe corrosion issues. Trebiatowski said funds would be offset by the equipment operational account.
