A motion to retain the duty crew until the end of 2026 passed by voice vote. Commissioners emphasized that the temporary designation addresses regulatory hour limits and gives staff time to evaluate staffing and budget implications during the 2027 budget process.
Separately, the board authorized the district manager to spend up to $2,500 to outfit sleeping quarters at the ESD building (101 FM 1514) for duty-crew use, including up to four heavy-duty beds and ancillary items. Commissioners discussed likely per‑bed pricing and agreed to the ceiling with direction that staff will seek discounts and report back if additional funds are required.
The board also asked staff to continue training and integration between the duty crew and volunteer personnel and to provide a budget update during the annual budget negotiations.
