Lyle Anderson, representing the new race owner Underground Runner, told the council registrations were up about 15% year-over-year with participants from 43 states and 352 registrants to date. Anderson asked to relocate packet pickup to either the race start or the Canyon Breeze Racetrack and requested mayoral authorization to sign the indemnification agreement required for using school buses.
City Attorney Justin Wayment said the indemnification arrangement had been used in prior years, that he had reviewed the contract, and that he had inserted city-specific language. The council discussed continued co-sponsorship, facility use, and logistics before approving the request.
Council Member Tyler Schena moved to approve up to $5,000 in financial support, use of city facilities, and authorization for the mayor to sign the indemnification agreement; Council Member Lance Cox seconded. The motion passed with all voting in favor as recorded in the minutes.
Race organizers plan the event for June 27, 2026. Staff will coordinate final logistics, packet-pickup location, and the executed indemnification agreement prior to the event.
