Southwest ISD Education Foundation Reports Growth, $200K in Teacher Grants and $640K+ Support to District

The Southwest ISD Education Foundation presented its inaugural annual report to the board, describing recent governance changes, fundraising events and grantmaking that supported district programs and students.
Executive director Jenny Collier summarized five years of progress: the foundation reported raising funds from events such as a golf tournament and Casino Night, awarding more than $200,000 in teacher grants (79 grants awarded from 286 applications) and using investment earnings to provide over $640,000 back to district initiatives and employee supports. Collier said the foundation’s investment account stood near $5.1 million as of May 31 and that the foundation used a portion of investment interest to expand one‑time support to the district.
Collier described new internal controls and a move toward a working board structure, and introduced the foundation’s executive board. Board members thanked foundation leaders and applauded the range of student experience grants the foundation funded—examples included STEM and arts camp scholarships and transportation or registration support for competitive events.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to continue the district‑foundation partnership; the MOU will be brought back for renewal on a triennial schedule. Trustees also discussed coordination to ensure foundation grants align with district priorities before awards are finalized.
