Board awards bid for Evolve Express walkthrough scanners for three East Rocky Mount schools

The Edgecomb County Board of Education voted to award a purchase of three Evolve Express walkthrough weapon-detection scanners to Alliance Technology Group, to be installed at three East Rocky Mount school sites and funded using the North Carolina School Safety Grant.
Staff told the board Alliance was the only vendor to submit a bid for the specified scanners and recommended the district purchase the same Evolve units used elsewhere in the district for consistency. "We felt it prudent that we go with Evolve because we wanted consistency," the presenter said.
The price presented in the meeting was shown as approximately $26,519.99 paid over four years; staff said the district initially sought seven systems but moved ahead with three while budget matters are finalized. The board approved the award by voice vote.
The district indicated it may purchase additional units later when funds become available and that the current purchase is intended to ensure the three sites have the systems in place for the upcoming school year.
