Northern Stamping granted outdoor racking and parking variances after cleanup commitments

Representatives for Northern Stamping told the Village of Valley View Planning Board on May 19 that they have worked to address complaints about litter, scrap materials and blocked fire lanes at their 7750 Hub Pkwy site, describing a regular cleaning regimen, removal of scrap steel and pallets, and plans to restripe the parking area.
Mike Szabo, identified as Environmental Health & Safety manager, said the company is attempting a culture change to reduce on-site litter—describing weekly Sunday cleanups, visible trash cans and no-parking signs—and that some racks will be moved to the rear of the building, relocated to other facilities or scrapped. He said the company would provide a hand-drawn landscape plan and install a guardrail to keep cars away from the hill. Engineer Todd Sciano said he would review proposed plantings and a proposed mound for potential underground utilities.
Solicitor David Lambros recommended disease-resistant “Green Giant” trees instead of spruce. Board members asked about employee discipline for littering and about setbacks between racks and the neighboring Chamberlin property; Mr. Szabo estimated the distance would be roughly 75 to 100 feet.
Following the presentation, the board approved a variance for outside racking and material storage (Ordinance sections 1252.03(f) and 1252.06(a)) and two front-setback-to-parking variances under Ordinance 1270.05 for parking north and south of the building. All motions carried by roll call votes.
The approvals allow Northern Stamping to proceed with the proposed racking and parking arrangements while encouraging submission of a formal landscape plan and staff review of utility conflicts.
