Waterloo board approves equipment, levee tree removal and sets 2026 mileage rate; resignation announced

At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Village of Waterloo Board of Trustees adopted multiple resolutions and recorded a staff resignation. Chairperson Travis Harlow introduced several resolutions, each approved by unanimous roll call.
The board approved Resolution 01-12-26-01 to transfer the police truck to maintenance (motion by Harlow, seconded by Rotert). Harlow also introduced Resolution 01-12-26-02 to approve sale of surplus equipment; the board passed the resolution on the condition the village attorney confirm required procedures (motion by Harlow, seconded by Nikki Ewing). The board adopted Resolution 01-12-26-03 to authorize removal of fallen trees along the levee (motion by Harlow, seconded by David Rochford).
On personnel and compensation matters, the trustees passed Resolution 01-12-26-04 to set the 2026 mileage reimbursement rate at $0.725 per mile (motion by Corie Sass, seconded by Nikki Ewing). The minutes also record that Harlow read a resignation letter from Harry Wray effective Jan. 23, 2026; Clerk Melissa Smith was directed to aggressively advertise for a replacement.
Separately, the board approved a motion to hold the employee appreciation dinner at Farmer Brown's; the motion carried with four yes votes and one abstention (Chairperson Harlow). The meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
