Eric Ascalon, representing TerraCycle, described recycling services the company provides and emphasized a program for recycling cigarette butts that could be implemented at the local level. The presentation outlined the service concept and raised the potential for the village to explore collection logistics; no procurement or contract award occurred at the meeting.
Sharon Hueftle of the South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD) briefed trustees on options for conducting an income survey to support Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications. Hueftle said an income survey gathers household-income data needed to demonstrate local eligibility for certain CDBG activities; she added that the village could opt instead for a Community Needs Assessment, which would ask a broader set of questions beyond income and provide more context for funding applications. Hueftle also discussed other state funding options that may work in conjunction with CDBG.
Board members did not take immediate action on either topic; they requested additional information and left both items for possible future follow-up. The clerk will coordinate any next steps if the board decides to pursue a survey or a pilot recycling program.
