Commission staff summarized several events and results: the annual Veterans Resource Fair drew about 800 attendees and 38 vendors; a claims clinic assisted roughly 120 veterans, with 50 signing up for VA health care services; and the "We All Serve" family-and-caregiver hike had about 200 participants. The commission also described the Mission Strong Summit, developed with the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families, which sought to strengthen county, post, and federal partnerships around transition and family services at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The commission highlighted the Veterans Regional Treatment Court as a promising intervention, reporting a recidivism rate of about 2% and an 89% completion rate for enrolled participants. Other outreach included a quarterly "open mic" of veteran service organizations to reduce organizational silos and a Freedom 250 Mobile Museum exhibit that attracted more than 3,000 visitors.
Commission members and councilors praised the initiatives and encouraged continued outreach into underserved parts of the county; the commission noted plans for additional outreach events including a July 30 program in Jarrettsville and further website and resource-guide improvements.
Council members thanked the commission for its work and recognized the role of partner organizations in expanding services for veterans and military families.
