AWOS is online; apron rehab delayed to fall and geotech settlement test continues

Airport staff told the board that the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) installation is complete and operational after a brief vendor scheduling delay, and that apron rehabilitation work has been pushed to the fall to better align contractor schedules.
"The AWOS is up and functional," Staff member (Speaker 7) said, describing a largely seamless installation in which Mesquite Electric completed dirt work and the consultant team handled field coordination. Staff (Speaker 9) said the FAA commissioning was delayed by vendor scheduling around Memorial Day, but pilots now have a local AWOS frequency and phone contact.
The contractor for apron rehabilitation reported scheduling conflicts so the pavement project is rescheduled for the fall. Staff said the city will advertise a request for proposals for a required periodic airport consultant and will likely form a selection committee of board members and staff to evaluate submissions.
Separately, members discussed an ongoing settlement test north of the field that engineers said requires roughly 32'2 to 35 days of submersion for full collapse; staff will distribute the geotechnical findings to local engineers. Board members encouraged stakeholders to review test locations and data before authorizing site paving or development.
The board closed the meeting after passing a motion to adjourn.
