Town clerk: two unknown properties in foreclosure could become town land if unclaimed

Town Clerk Lisa M. Young reported to the Cushing selectmen on Jan. 11, 2016, that the town has two unknown properties currently in the foreclosure process and outlined the next procedural steps.
According to Young, one parcel is located off Cross Road and the other is landlocked by Raccoon Road. Because ownership could not be confirmed, the town will send letters to abutters and publish a notice in the local paper asking for proof of ownership by deed. Young said that if no one claims the parcels before the foreclosure process is finalized, the properties would become town land.
Chairman Alton Grover and Selectman Daniel Staples agreed to contact Assessors’ Agent Garnett Robinson to obtain further information about the parcels and the status of the foreclosure proceedings. No formal motion or vote to take title was recorded at the meeting; the clerk described procedural steps that must occur before a final disposition.
The board took no immediate action to accept title; follow-up with the assessor and required public notice are the next steps.
