Assistant Superintendent for Business & Operations Josh Aurand presented a broad slate of business recommendations at the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 13, including capital project bids, vendor renewals and professional-development agreements.
Aurand recommended awarding the Rock Cut Parking Lot Project to Norwest Construction with a base bid of $209,550.00 and an alternate of $12,475.65 for a total of $222,025.65. He also recommended awarding the Harlem Middle School painting corridor project to Midwest Decorating for a total cost of $80,600. Aurand presented Memoranda of Understanding with Hagney Architects for Harlem High School boiler replacement and fire-alarm system upgrades, and an agreement with Thayer Energy Solutions to update Windsor Elementary School lighting.
The business packet included numerous contract and renewal recommendations: a fiscal-year renewal quote for the Treasurer’s Bond (limit $7,300,000; premium $6,464), a one-year extension with Athletico Management LLC to provide athletic training services ($39,725), a three-year renewal with Thomson Reuters CLEAR and LPR software for residency verification, and multiple curriculum, assessment and professional-development subscriptions funded through IDEA, Title II/IV or local funds (Teaching Strategies Gold; Mystery Science; Curriculum Associates i-Ready; AMIRA en Espanol; Formative/Newsela; Embrace IEP; Fastbridge; Woodcock Johnson V; Pearson Digital Assessment Library; Everway (News2You); Readtopia; and others). Aurand said funding sources for specific items were identified in the packet (for example, several special education platforms and services are funded by IDEA Flow Through Part B and Pre-K IDEA grants).
Aurand also recommended approving an agreement with Per Mar Security to install cellular communications at all district buildings at a total cost of $21,294.25, which he said would improve alarm response times and reduce monthly costs. The packet included multiple independent contractor agreements for speech/language and psychological evaluations and professional development for teachers.
The minutes record these items as recommendations; the transcript does not include final roll-call votes or recorded tally numbers for each approval in the Committee of the Whole minutes. Where funding sources were listed in the packet, Aurand’s presentation noted them; for other items the packet showed the vendor and cost but did not list a funding source in the discussion.
