The Rome City Commission voted 5-3 on June 15 to approve revisions to the 2025 budget that finance staff said are required for year-end state reporting.
Tony Reinhardt, presenting the finance committee's work, said the state requires a revision as part of the end-of-year process and that most changes affect the general fund and the community development fund. "The state requires as part of our end of year process to meet some budgetary requirements that a revision be made to the budget before reporting is done for the year," Reinhardt said.
Mayor Pro Tem moved to approve the revisions as submitted; a second was recorded but not named in the transcript. During discussion, a commissioner noted that some members outside the finance committee had not received a copy and said they were not comfortable voting without reviewing the document. The commission proceeded to a roll-call vote. The clerk recorded four "yes" votes and three "no" votes; the mayor then cast a deciding "yes," producing a 5-3 outcome.
Commissioners also heard that the finance director updated the group on funds related to a forthcoming water-treatment-plant project. No amendments were recorded on the floor; the action as approved was described by staff as largely a housekeeping step to combine and reclassify certain funds for reporting.
The commission adjourned after completing the day's agenda.
